Want an easy way to walk more? Try a pedometer. A new study shows that people who use pedometers walk much farther than people who don't.
A pedometer clips onto your belt and tracks how many steps you take each day. At the end of the day, you simply look at the digital display and see how many steps you have taken.
The study, published in this month's Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, found that overweight, inactive women did better when they were given a pedometer and told to take 10,000 steps, compared to women who were given a sealed pedometer and told to walk for thirty minutes.
When women could count their steps using the pedometer, they not only met the goal, they walked an average of 2,000 steps extra on days they went on walks. And on other days, they still walked more than they usually did. Women who couldn't see their pedometer's display did go on the 30 minute walk sometimes, but when they didn't, they weren't as active as the other women.
Write it down – jot down the number of steps you've taken during the day and you'll have a record of how far you really are walking every day. Even on un-energetic days, you'll see your past successes down on paper.
Notice those steps – you may be surprised to see how many steps you take running an errand, strolling through a store, or even walking to the mailbox. Notice how many steps you take doing everyday things and you'll stay motivated.

If you can’t seem to get off the couch and start exercising, ask yourself if one of these exercise barriers is holding you back.
All or nothing – if you’re an “all or nothing” thinker, you may put off exercising until you have plenty of time, no distractions, or can afford the perfect running shoes. Remember, you don’t have to endure an uninterrupted hour of exercise to benefit. Take the stairs, park farther away, or even squeeze in a mini-workout before dinner. Short workouts do add up to greater health and well being, sooner than you may realize. Try wearing a pedometer and see how quickly everyday steps can add up.
In a bad habit – exercise is a habit like any other. If you’re in the habit of spending your free time on the couch, it will be difficult to change your routine. Luckily, habits can be broken and once you learn a new way to do things, you’ll likely find your new habit easy to stick with. All it takes is going on an evening walk, enjoying a dance class, or getting involved in a sports team you enjoy. Before you know it, your bad habits can be changed to a lifestyle that leads you right to your goals.
The wrong fuel – though it takes time to build up your exercise endurance, if you’re not sticking to your routine or seeing results, you may be eating the wrong foods and starving your body of good exercise nutrition. Make a point to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Taking a daily multivitamin and energy supplement may also help increase your energy while you exercise. Remember, a diet of fast food, chips, donuts, soda pop and cookies will not help your body stay healthy and energized during exercise, compared to a healthier diet.
Unhelpful people – if the people closest to you don’t share your exercise and health goals, it can be hard to change your routine, especially if you spend a lot of time with people who enjoy foods and activities that make staying healthy difficult. If you’ve tried to explain the importance of health and wellness and it doesn’t help, focus on finding exercise buddies and people to help support your goals.
Track each step you take towards your health goals with TriVita’s easy-to-use Healthy Living Pedometer – it is the highest quality pedometer available, and it counts calories, steps and distance, so you can just enjoy your workout! To learn more about this product, visit Trivita

Did you know that the simple act of walking benefits your body in incredible ways? This low-impact activity reduces your risk of the number one cause of death in the United States – heart disease. It also helps prevent: high blood pressure, stroke, cancer and diabetes.
- Reduce the risk of nerve damage in diabetics – only 6.5% of walkers had nerve damage, compared with 30% of non-walkers.
- Prevent hip fractures in postmenopausal women – just 30 minutes a day reduces risk by 40%.
- Reduce the risk of stroke in women – experts suspect this is due to maintaining healthy weight, keeping blood pressure at a healthy level, and increasing “good” HDL cholesterol.
To get started, take a stroll through a local park, nature trail, or just step outside and meander through your neighborhood. If the weather is too chilly, try walking around your local mall – many malls offer walking programs which meet before the mall opens – you can meet new friends, exercise and window-shop all at the same time!
Tip: If walking for 30 minutes, 5 days a week sounds challenging, start by walking for one minute a day. Each day, add one minute to your walk – in only 30 days you’ll be walking for 30 minutes! And don’t forget, those little steps you take every day add up – walking to the mailbox, cleaning the house, even walking around the grocery store – use a pedometer to see how quickly little steps add up to big results.
Count every step towards your health goals with TriVita’s easy-to-read pedometer.

It happens to everyone at some time or another: a great big case of the “blahs.” Accompanying the blahs can be sleepiness, boredom, headache, and general crankiness. What can be done to combat the blahs?
Have you kept up your exercise
Exercise releases endorphins that help keep your mood up.
Give yourself the day off
Brew tea, read a book, walk the dog, take yourself out to eat; whatever soothes you... give yourself permission to dedicate time to yourself to relax and rejuvenate.
Call a friend and ask them to cheer you up!
Friends know what tickles you. Maybe all you need is a good laugh with a good friend.
Talk about it
If your blahs are stemming from a more serious issue, talk it over with someone you trust. Blahs that last several days might be more than just the blahs.
Remember that stress can harm your heart, so beating the blahs isn’t just a matter of mood. Taking steps now to reduce blah-related stress will help your whole health over the long term.
Consistent use of TriVita’s Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid.™ can elevate your mood as well as help protect your heart. Taken every day under your tongue, this patented formula increases energy and boosts optimism.

Boost your mood
Your mood affects everyone and everything around you. The color of your mood will brighten or darken every circumstance and moment of your life. Attitude is how you look at the world; mood is the feeling and expression of your attitude. The two go hand in hand: a positive attitude tends to lift your mood, a negative attitude darkens it.
Playing with your pets
Pet antics are virtually guaranteed to cheer you. Just relaxing with your pet nearby, giving them a good, long pet will lower your stress level and improve your outlook.
Read a book
Or read the newspaper comics. Doing something to distract you from what put you in a bad mood is always a good idea. Humorous books or comics make it all the more likely to cheer you up.
Exercising
Being in a bad mood means your body is undergoing stress and tension. Burn off the negative feelings with a brisk walk or bike ride.
Talking about it
What seemed to set off your dark mood? Was it a one-time occurrence, or is it a constant stressor? If there is something in your life that is leading to prolonged bad moods, depression, or anger, then it’s time to talk the problem out with someone. A good friend may be all you need to vent your frustrations; in more severe cases, a professional counselor may be in order. In any case, getting the cause of your bad mood off your chest will alleviate its immediate symptoms.
Finally, there are always two sides to every coin: don’t berate yourself if you’re not always on top of the world. It’s okay to feel every mood that comes along; just don’t let the bad ones bring you down.
B-12 can lift your mood and increase your optimism, as well as help protect your heart. TriVita’s Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid.™, just once a day under your tongue, can elevate your mood and energy naturally.

Give yourself the night off
Does your schedule tonight look something like this? Pick up kids, grocery shopping, drop off kids, start dinner, call Aunt Gladys, wash dog, call Uncle Frank, serve dinner, help spouse with project, put gas in car... feel free to fill in your own little errands.
If your evenings look anything like this, it’s time to give yourself the night off! Day in and day out, night after night, stress builds up in your body, and stress heads straight for your heart, where it can cause a variety of health problems. If you want to keep going at full-speed, you have to slow down once in a while!
. Go to a local theatre for a live play.
. Pack a picnic dinner and head to the park.
. Go to a drive-in movie.
. Check out what evening programs are offered at your library.
. Window shop downtown.
. Walk to a frozen yogurt shop.
Whatever you decide to do on your night off, the point is simple: Don’t Worry! Make whatever preparations you need in advance, so when your night off comes up, you can enjoy it! Let stress melt away; take deep breaths and enjoy the evening. You’ll be glad you did.
B vitamins help protect your heart from being damaged, and increase your energy level. Your options? Painful, expensive B-12 injections... swallowed pills that don’t get into your bloodstream... or Dr. Alfred Libby’s original Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid, which dissolves under your tongue and speeds B vitamins through your body.
Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid is the perfect compliment to both busy nights and nights off, because you’ll have the energy you need to work hard and play hard! To learn more about this product.

Try Walking Plus
You should be engaged in regular cardiovascular exercise as directed by your physician. Virtually everyone should be, at the very least, walking briskly for 30 minutes each day.
But maybe you’ve been walking your 30 minutes; maybe you’ve been feeling the benefits of regular exercise; and maybe you’re starting to get a little bored! Exercise tedium can strike anyone. Rather than give up the exercise, though, find new ways to invigorate your old walking regimen with Walking Plus...
Listening to music. Many people listen to their favorite energetic - or even relaxing - music as they walk around the block or work on the treadmill.
Listening to an audio book. If you’re burnt out on the same old music tapes and CD’s, try an audio book by your favorite author. They’re freely available at most libraries.
Bringing a friend. If you’ve been walking alone, finding a walking partner will go a long way toward energizing your workout. You can encourage and support each other, and develop a deeper relationship, too.
Volunteering. If you don’t have a dog of your own, offer to walk a neighbor’s dogs or help walk dogs at an animal shelter. You’ll get a great workout for sure, with the added benefit of helping out!
For an increase in daily stamina and help getting the rest you need at night, try TriVita’s VitaDaily AM/PM™ supplement. This nutritional punch contains the vitamins, macro minerals and trace minerals you need for the day’s work and the evening’s rest.

Boost your immune system
If you find yourself catching every bug around, your immune system may not be as strong as it should be. And with the weather growing colder and flu vaccine shortages, it’s more important than ever to boost your general health.
Everyday things can weaken your immune system – stress, smoking, pollution, an unhealthy diet, negative emotions, and lack of exercise. To boost your immune system follow these tips:
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
They’re full of free-radical-fighting antioxidants, which help keep your cells healthy. Add an extra fruit or vegetable to each meal, and take a specialized supplement, such as TriVita’s Super Antioxidant Complex™
Reduce Stress
Stress creates harmful reactions in your body that strain your system and make it easier to get sick. Write about stress, talk to friends, make a plan to deal with it, or simplify your life.
Exercise
Working out reduces stress while it boosts your immune system. You’ll also get the added benefit of increasing your general health. Even a brisk walk helps.
Wash your hands
Washing your hands often will prevent germs from spreading. Be sure to wash up before eating or touching your face - especially your mouth, nose and eyes.

He is no longer just sitting in his workshop. We both feel that our mental clarity has improved, and it has increased our energy. It is so good to see him smiling again!

Get Energy from Good Fats
By Dr. Minshew
The inside scoop on calories and fats
Do you know what a calorie is? It’s a measurement of energy. More specifically, it’s the amount of potential energy stored in any food we eat. Generally speaking, both protein and carbohydrate foods each contain about four calories per gram. Fats, in comparison, have more than twice the calories and twice the potential energy per gram (note: 28.3 grams=1 ounce). So for long-term energy and stamina, think fats!
Small snacks with powerhouse fats
English walnuts – It takes about 100 calories of energy for me to walk a mile, and about 130 calories to run one mile. A one-ounce serving of English walnuts (about 7 pieces) provides 180 calories of energy – that’s enough fat energy for me to walk nearly two miles or to run 1¼ miles! Plus, walnuts are very high in Omega-3 fats.
Avocado – It takes about 250 calories of energy for me to ride a stationary bicycle for 30 minutes (average speed 10 mph). That’s about the amount of energy in a small avocado, a very delicious fruit containing high levels of beneficial fats.
Green olives – It takes about 140 calories for me to swim 20 laps in the pool. That’s about the same amount of energy found in a small serving of green olives (my favorites!). The olive oil is beneficial for your heart and brain, as well as serving as a natural antibiotic. It is one of the most healthful oils for your body and like other sources of fat, it’s filled with lots of potential energy.
Calories in, calories out For any single day, whenever you don’t use up all the food energy you consume, the excess energy is stored in fat cells as triglycerides. In other words, you gain fat. Conversely, whenever you use up more energy in a day than you consume, that deficit will likely be taken from fat stored in fat cells (the exception to this is when you are under severe stress). Here, you’ll lose fat, which is a very good thing for most North Americans.
The good, the bad and the ugly
Fats contain more than twice as much potential energy as protein and carbohydrates. For instance, Omega-3 fats are absolutely vital for your brain and heart − so much so that a neurologist said that “Omega-3 is to the brain what calcium is to the bones.” Some sound advice: eat small portions of good fats every day and eat more fat when you need more energy – for instance, on a long hike.
Certain good fats are not found in the diets of people in developed countries. Or, at the very least, they are not eaten with the same regularity as they were in past times. If we do not have enough good fats in our diet, our health will suffer in many ways. The internal organs and hormones made up from these fats will not function correctly. Our brain will literally shrink without good fats. We will have blood sugar and hormone imbalances. We may even have a heart attack without enough good fats. Therefore, it’s important that we select a good balance of fats in our diet and also include a high quality, Omega essential fatty acid supplement. Omega-3 supplements are perhaps the most important supplement we can take.
Some fats are inherently bad. No matter what foods they’re found in they are always bad for you. Both trans-fats and hydrogenated fats fall into this category. Never eat them. Fortunately, neither of these fats occur in nature. So, as long as you are eating whole foods that have not been processed or over-cooked, you are unlikely to be poisoned by these bad fats.
Finally, as with all foods, you can over-consume even the good fats – it’s like getting too much of a good thing. This is the ugly side of dietary fats. High fat foods provide a lot of energy. If you do not plan to burn off that energy, be sure to eat very little of these foods. Otherwise, unused stores of excess energy will appear in ugly places!
Take Control of Your Health
Eat good fats
Mono- and poly-unsaturated oils (e.g., olive and sesame)
Nuts – be sure they are not rancid (spoiled)
Fish – salmon, halibut, tuna and other cold-water fish
Olives – a whole food source of olive oil and Vitamin E
Avocado – nutritious and filled with antioxidants
Avoid bad fats
Trans-fats
Hydrogenated fats
Saturated fats: a little is OK but never more than 20% Daily Value
Any amount of fat consumed above your energy requirements for the day
Build a solid foundation of nutrition

Energy and Metabolism: How is Your Energy Level?
Dr. Minshew
The World Health Organization (WHO) states, "Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It is the ability to lead a socially and economically productive life."
Does that describe you? Or, like many people in North America, are you just too tired to think about being “socially and economically productive”?
If you feel too tired to do much more than read this article, don’t feel alone. Up to 85% of the people that visit a doctor for any reason also complain of being chronically tired. It seems that we are in the middle of an energy crisis that has nothing to do with petroleum production!
When we talk about energy we need to distinguish the difference between the ability to survive and the feeling of being energetic. We must admit that even the sickest person is converting nutrients to energy in order to survive. Yet, we want to do more than survive – we want to feel energetic. We want to have the energy to dream and then have the energy to live those dreams. We want to feel our best every day. Is that possible?
Eating for energy: fats, protein, and carbohydrates
As I mentioned, energy comes from the way our bodies burn nutrients such as fats, protein, and carbohydrates. These nutrients must be metabolized. The word metabolism is from a Greek word that describes the process of creating energy from food. This description gives us the first hint as to how we can create and sustain an energetic feeling − by balancing our diet every day.
A balanced diet must include:
7 to 9 servings of fruit and vegetables (for adults)
30+ grams of high quality protein
20 to 35 grams of fiber daily
Sugars from the foods we eat provide us with ready energy, but it doesn’t last very long. Proteins are converted to energy at a much slower pace and provide us with a more stable supply of energy – five times as much energy per gram as sugar.
However, when it comes to providing energy, fat is the undisputed champion. Fat provides us with stamina. It burns slowly and steadily up to 8 times longer than sugar. So for stamina that lasts all day and into the evening hours, select foods high in “good” fats.
Many experts say that we should get as much as 30% of our total calories per day from fat. This may mean more than 70 grams of fat for a 2,200 calorie per day diet. That’s a lot of fat! But don’t reach for the French fries just yet. You see, all foods contain fat. Fat is as important for plants as it is for humans. So, select fats from foods that are known for high energy, such as vegetables, seeds, nuts, legumes, and certain types of fish.
Take Control of Your Health
When frustration drains your energy: immediately drink 2 glasses of water.
When anxiety and tension prevent you from enjoying the moment: 10 minutes of deep breathing will cut your stress in half!
When fatigue seems insurmountable: a brisk walk in the open air will revive you.
When mental fog descends and clouds your thinking: a cup of green or ginseng tea will cut through the fog and brighten your mind.

Prepare yourself for an active and fun spring!
Are you longing to take a walk through a park or to bicycle along a tree-lined path? As the weather brightens, we're reminded that spring is just around the corner and it's time for some warm-weather fun!
After a long winter lay-off, how can you prepare for spring-time activities? One way is to make sure your diet is packed with natural and healthy carbohydrates.
Choose carbohydrates wisely
Carbohydrates are converted into sugars when they're digested, raising our blood sugar and giving us a ready form of energy. There are a wide variety of foods that have natural carbohydrates - but which ones are best for you and your energy level?
Oatmeal, black beans, fresh apples, and doughnuts are examples of foods that have carbohydrates. But there is a difference - the doughnut is not a healthy food source and it doesn't work as efficiently as the others in creating energy.
Sugary foods make your blood sugar rise and fall so quickly that your energy level falls lower than before you've eaten. These types of foods are high on the Glycemic
Index (GI) and won't sustain lasting energy.
The Glycemic Index (GI) measures how quickly a food raises your blood sugar. Healthy food choices have a low GI, (55 or less) raising your blood sugar gradually to give you the lasting energy you need for an active and fun spring.
An average doughnut has a GI of 76, which is high; while a medium apple is 38 and a serving of black beans is 30. If you want to create natural energy that lasts a long time, choose the apple instead of a doughnut for your mid-morning snack. Plus, you'll benefit from the antioxidants in a fresh apple.
Here are some suggestions for foods that help you get and keep healthy, lasting energy for spring activities:
Whole Grains
The edible grains are wheat, rice, corn, barley, oats, and rye. A whole grain has an outer layer of bran, a carbohydrate-rich middle layer, and an inner germ layer. Refining grains removes the fiber-rich layer of the grain, making it less nutritious and giving it a higher GI reading. White bread makes your blood sugar rise faster than whole grain bread.
According to the Oregon State University's Linus Pauling Institute, diets that include whole grains are linked with reduced risks of cardiovascular disease and Type II Diabetes.
Whole grains land in the middle of the glycemic index, (56 - 70). Limit them to three or four servings per day.
One serving of whole grain:
Slice of whole grain bread
½ whole grain English muffin or bagel
½ cup of oatmeal, brown rice, or cooked whole wheat pasta
One ounce whole grain breakfast cereal
5 - 6 whole grain crackers.
Legumes
Legumes are plants with seeds that grow into pods. Edible legumes include beans, lentils, peanuts, and peas.
They are a great source of low fat carbohydrates, as long as they are prepared without animal fats. Legumes are also cholesterol-free, fiber rich, and a good source of plant protein.
The American Heart Association says that legumes are a heart-healthy food. They should be included in your balanced diet at least three times weekly.
Healthy Legumes with low GIs:
Black beans
Butter beans
Garbanzo beans
Kidney beans
Lentils
Peas
Pinto beans
Eat foods with low GI (Glycemic Index) readings to help you maintain a healthy weight and activity level this spring!
Vegetables
Vegetables are a wonderful source of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. It's surprising to find that many are also a healthy source of carbohydrates.
Starchy and sweet vegetables have a higher GI. Beets have a GI of 65 and are better in regulating energy than a baked, red potato (GI = 93) or a serving of French fries (75).
Parsnips have a high GI, 97; yams are much lower at 57. Limit your consumption of parsnips in favor of yams, beets, or carrots (47) if you want lasting energy.
Nutritionists advise eating 4 - 7 servings of vegetables a day.
Fruits
Antioxidant-rich fruits have been used by athletes to provide quick energy. Many tennis players and marathoners will eat a banana (GI = 56) to fuel athletic performance.
Apples, peaches, grapes, oranges, grapefruit, and plums have low GIs and are great additions to your diet. In the medium range, you'll find cantaloupes, apricots, pineapple, watermelon, and bananas.
Dates and raisins have high GIs, as well as any dried fruit. If you're interested in balancing your blood sugar, avoid dried fruits.
For a balanced diet, experts suggest 2 - 5 servings of fruits daily.
Enjoy an active spring!
In recent years, carbohydrates were considered villains. They were accused of causing weight gain and belly fat. Fast-burning, high GI carbohydrates are major contributors to obesity. Avoid these foods to help reduce excess weight.
Slow-burning, low GI carbohydrates contribute to our wellness by generating balanced and lasting energy levels. Eat foods with low GI readings to help you maintain a healthy weight and activity level this spring!

"I've lost 161 pounds and 26 inches from my waist in just 11 months!" Terry Newsome
As I'm approaching the one year mark on Leanology, I look back and am amazed at how much my life has changed in that short space of time.
I used to be ashamed of being seen with my family because of my size. Now - I love doing activities with my family. This year, when the kids picked out a pumpkin from a pumpkin patch, I helped them instead of watching from the car! My weight loss is helping me improve my relationship with my family.
I didn't play golf for more that 10 years because it was hard to see the ball at my feet. It also hurt my joints to stand for too long. This fall I played a full round - 18 holes! That's more than five hours of walking, swinging golf clubs and having fun with friends. It was so amazing to feel myself swing the golf club easily. I was able to follow through fluidly and I felt flexible and limber. I haven't felt that way for a long, long time.
I stopped fishing from a boat when I became too large. For the first time in more than 10 years I was finally able to do one of my favorite activities. I actually went Flounder fishing at night! Thanks to Leanology, I can now take my son fishing as well for hours at a time! He absolutely LOVES to go fishing at the small pond near our home. This was one of my very favorite things to do with my dad when I was growing up. It means so much to me that I can now share this treasured experience with my own boy.
I used to play catch with my son from a lawn chair. I recently went to the baseball diamond with my son to practice some drills. It was so much fun for me to be on the field again, and my son's baseball skills have improved dramatically because I have more energy and can do so much more.
I used to buy clothes from Plus-size catalogs and Big Man shops. I'm buying my clothes from regular department stores now! It is so wonderful to walk into a mall and know that I can probably buy my clothes from nearly every store - I love it and thank God every day for every little thing that I can experience again!
I still look forward to Thanksgiving - but now it's because I'm with family and friends rather than for the mountain of food. My whole attitude has turned around and I'm able to put my family, God and my health before food. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my life has completely been transformed since I lost weight with the Leanology Smart Weight Loss System.
Everything has improved and every day I find something new that I can be excited about. It's because I'm out in the world - not shut away like I was when I was very obese.
Even though I've had great success with Leanology, I want to talk with you about when I hit my plateau. A few months ago I suddenly wasn't losing weight as fast. I hadn't changed anything - I was still eating healthy meals and snacks, taking two Leanology capsules twice a day, drinking two Leanology shakes and exercising.
Everyone I talked with - including Dr. Minshew at TriVita - told me that it was a normal occurrence. My weight loss was probably slowing down because I weighed less and my metabolism was slower.
Instead of being down about it, I decided to try to find a way to break through the plateau. I started doing strength training again, in addition to cardiovascular exercise. I also added more lean protein to my meals, having an extra chicken breast or four-ounce piece of fish for lunch or dinner. Well, that did it... I lost 15 pounds the next month.
If you're experiencing your own plateau, it could be for a lot of reasons. I encourage you to continue with the Leanology Smart Weight Loss System, eat nutritiously and exercise - your body has to be healthy in order to lose weight. And, if you're concerned about your health for any reason, make sure you talk with your health care provider.

A bonus day of healthy living
24 extra hours this Leap Year month, 24 easy ways to welcome wellness
Not only is February Heart Month, but it's also a Leap Year month. That means a whole extra day added on to February's usual 28, and a whole extra day to be good to yourself and your health. (Leap Years happen every four years so that our calendar can match up with the Earth's motion around the sun).
What will you do with your extra 24 hours? Here are some easy tips to try, one for each hour of the extra day, to help you feel and be healthier.
Eating or Drinking
1. Snack smarter. Don't reach for the same old chips, crackers or cookies. Instead, enjoy some raisins, an apple, carrot sticks or a cup of low-fat popcorn.
2. Can the cans. Carbonated soft drinks - even the "diet" versions - are loaded with caffeine, chemicals and preservatives that damage teeth, bones and other body parts. Fruit juice is better, but watch the calories. You can't go wrong with good old fashioned water to stay hydrated and keep your energy levels up.
3. Skip the salad dressing trap. Eating lots of salads? Great! Dousing them with high-fat dressings? Bad! Next time you cruise the salad bar, choose a tablespoon of olive oil instead.
4. C lick off TV eating. Watching TV with food in hand leads to "unconscious eating" and weight gain. If you need to occupy your hands, try knitting or a game puzzle, or stand up and stretch.
5. B an bottomless plates. When serving a meal, avoid having platters and bowls of food on the table: this encourages repeat helpings. Instead, fill plates and then bring them to the table.
6. T ry TriVita's Leanology. In just moments, you can order your Leanology Starter Kit and be on your way to a healthier, slimmer you. Already have the Starter Kit? Stock up on exclusive Leanology Capsules and tasty nutritional shakes (for more, see pages 6-7).
Exercise
7. G et FREE workouts. Take the stairs instead of the escalator. Park far away from the store. Bag your own groceries. Think of these habits as free health club memberships: they're everywhere!
8. Break your desk chains. Do you sit in front of a computer all day? Get up and walk around the office, stop in to talk with a co-worker instead of sending an email and walk briskly to the water fountain.
9. Dance. Solo or with a partner (brooms count), try a little two-step, cha-cha or... remember The Hustle?
10. Delight your dog. Take a walk with your best friend.
11. B e phone fit. Stand up when talking on the phone. It's a weight-bearing posture that does a little something for bone health. (And if you're sitting when the phone rings, rising makes you move).
12. Be a walking wonder. If you do nothing else, walk. Walking has the lowest drop-out rate of any physical activity. PLUS: for every hour of regular, heartbeat-raising exercise we do - like brisk walking we add two hours to our lives.
Healthy Habits
13. Snuff out smoking. Cutting down on (or cutting out) smoking? Instead of lighting up, light up someone's life with a note or phone call.
14. P ay yourself for health. Start a "good health" money jar. Every time you resist the urge to overeat or smoke or skip your walk, put some coins in the jar. When the cash adds up, reward yourself with something fun.
15. Take supplements daily. Get the essential nutrients and vitamins you need in quality TriVita supplements, and take them every day.
16. A toast to you. If you drink alcohol, practice moderation and avoid high calorie distilled spirits. Better idea: club soda or water with lemon or lime.
17. Protect your sleep. To snooze more soundly, ban the TV from the bedroom and avoid exercise and alcohol within a few hours of bedtime.
18. Connect with others. Contact with people, especially in later life, improves health. So go to church, volunteer and keep in touch.
Stress-busters
19. Practice Trivita's 10 Essentials for Health and Wellness. Every single one, from breathing deeply to practicing acceptance, is proven to reduce stress and increase relaxation and happiness.
20. Meditate. Think about all the ways in which you're blessed. Pray. Picture a calming scene.
21. Tense up. Deliberately tense every muscle in your body all at once:
wrinkle your forehead, clench your teeth and fists, tighten everything and hold it for 7-10 seconds. Then relax all these muscles and breathe deeply several times.
22. Zone out. Focus on relaxing your muscles one area or zone at a time. Start at your feet and work toward your head, or vice versa.
23. Listen to music.
24. Get the health habit. All the elements of good health help reduce stress: eat right, sleep well, exercise, limit caffeine and alcohol intake and nourish your wellness with vitamins and nutrients from TriVita.
